Paisley Smith is a Canadian filmmaker & virtual reality creator from Vancouver, British Columbia. She is the creator of Unceded Territories, an interactive VR film with artist and activist Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2019. She also created Homestay, an interactive VR documentary produced by the National Film Board of Canada. Homestay is the recipient of ‘Best XR’ for Change at the Games for Change Festival 2019. She is a 2021 Civic Media Fellow with the Annenberg Innovation Lab at USC. During these times of extraordinary change, she is using her worldbuilding skills to design solutions for deep, meaningful connection and to imagine our Feminist Future. She lives and works in Los Angeles.

Ari Melenciano is an artist, designer, creative technologist, researcher, and educator who is passionate about exploring the relationships between various forms of design and sentient experiences.

Currently, her research is a synthesis of human-computer interactive technologies, architecture, Afrocentric design practices, counterculture, audiovisuality, biomimicry, experimental pedagogy, and Black radical imagination

Ari is the founder of Afrotectopia, a social institution fostering interdisciplinary innovation at the intersections of art, design, technology, Black culture and activism through collaborative research and practice.

She currently teaches creative technology and design at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, NYU’s Dept. of Digital Photography and Imaging, Pratt Institute’s Communications Design school, and Hunter College’s Integrated Media Arts MFA program.

Co-Creation in Emerging Media

Sarah Wolozin is director of the MIT Open Documentary Lab and co-principal investigator of Collective Wisdom, a hybrid field study that sets out to map, define, and shed light on co-creation methods within media. In her prior work as an award-winning media maker, she experimented with storytelling and emerging technology to make information and new technology more accessible and to shed light on alternative and unknown narratives. She is the founder and editorial director of Docubase, co-founder and editor-at-large of Immerse, and co-founder of the Co-Creation Studio. She cocurates a bi-annual conference on topics relevant to documentary and emerging media and is a frequent speaker at festivals and conferences.

Salome Asega is an artist and researcher based in Brooklyn, NY. Salome has participated in residencies and fellowships with Eyebeam, New Museum, The Laundromat Project, and Recess. She has exhibited at the Shanghai Biennale, MoMA, Carnegie Library, August Wilson Center, Knockdown Center, and more. She has also given presentations and lectures at Performa, EYEO, Brooklyn Museum, MIT Media Lab, and more. Salome is currently a Ford Foundation Technology Fellow landscaping new media arts infrastructure. She is also the Director of Partnerships at POWRPLNT, a digital art collaboratory in Brooklyn. Salome received her MFA from Parsons at The New School in Design and Technology where she also teaches.

Kamal Sinclair is making the world more beautiful as the Executive Director of the Guild of Future Architects; supporting independent artists as a Senior Consultant for Sundance Institute’s Future of Culture Initiative, and making art through a family creative practice at Sinclair Futures. She also serves as an External Advisor to the MacArthur Foundation’s Journalism & Media Program and as a board member of MIT’s Center for Advanced Virtuality. Previously, she served as the Director of Sundance Institute’s New Frontier Labs Program for seven years, which supports artists working at the convergence of film, art, media, and technology.
